Alumni Clubs

Nearly 600,000 strong, our alumni are a critical part of the Illinois family and serve as brand ambassadors all over the world.

Consistent Branding of Alumni Club Names

Participating in alumni clubs and college groups is a great way to stay connected to the University of Illinois and your fellow alumni. Because of their reach and visibility, it is critical that alumni clubs and other groups follow university brand standards. By consistently and professionally using our Block I logo, the name of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and other brand elements, alumni can help strengthen the Illinois brand.

It is also important to recognize that the University of Illinois brand includes names, wordmarks, logos and images that are valuable, legally protected assets. The standards set by Strategic Communications and Marketing, in concert with the Illinois Alumni Association, establish how to use these items.

Alumni Club Names

The preferred naming structure for alumni clubs begins with the location of the club followed by the
words “Illini Club.” For example:

  • Tucson Illini Club
  • Seattle Illini Club

For alumni groups centered on shared interests, such as the “Illinois Black Alumni Network” or the “Illinois Bands Alumni,” including the use of “Illini,” “Illinois” or “University of Illinois” is appropriate and can be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Alumni Club Logo Use

The University of Illinois Alumni Association logo includes the Block I to maintain a strong connection to the main campus in Urbana-Champaign. Therefore, all alumni club logos must include the Block I with approved logo type, or the Block I mark must be included with other approved event and social media branding. Club logos that meet this standard are included in your club’s brand toolkit.

Alumni Club Social Media Logo Use

We have created social media icons for each alumni chapter. Because of unique sizing constraints, we have slightly altered the proportions of the university logo. Don’t use social media icons in any other application of the university’s visual identity.
