Web Accessibility Note
If you choose to use an icon to replace meaningful text, be sure that you include alt text to retain the same meaning for all users.
Adding a brand icon to WordPress
Adding an icon on your WordPress website can be super easy with the new Hosted Brand Assets library.
To add one to your WordPress website, all you need to do find the icon and file type you want in the hosted brand assets library, click the link and it will bring you to a page that just has the icon. Copy this URL.
Back in your WordPress editor, add an image block. Select “Insert from URL” and then paste the URL you got from the last step. You can resize using the right-hand toolbar.
If you ever need to so swap out the icon using this method, you can just modify the URL string. Try replacing “blue” with “orange” or “solid” with “line.” Or swap the icon altogether using the names on the icon page. Replace “admissions” with “alumni” in the name. You can even change the file type from .png to .svg!
Requesting a new Icon
If you see that an icon is missing from our library that would benefit the entire university, please do submit your request to branding@illinois.edu.
