About Brand Architecture

Logos and wordmarks are created by mapping a visual system to our brand architecture. Simply said, brand architecture is about how we relate to each other and to our parent brand, Illinois. Brand architecture is comprised of two documents that outline our logos and wordmarks system.

The Unit
Wordmark System

The Unit Wordmark System shows how the Illinois identity extends to all units across the university. Use this guide to reference how to represent your unit correctly and how to use your unit wordmark in marketing materials.

Requests for Unit Wordmark(s)

Unit wordmarks will be provided by Public Affairs.

Campus Communication Officers (CCOs) will submit a request on behalf of their units that includes a policy choice for how the unit chooses to exercise the standard. Files are made available in Box to any users granted by the CCO.

Individual requests will not be fulfilled that do not align with the policy standard.

Downloading the Logo and Wordmark

U of I Box

All possible logo and wordmark variations are available for download through U of I Box* and may not be altered. No other variations may be created.

Download the Entire Folder

To download a .zip file containing all possible logo or wordmark variations, click on the down arrow next to the folder name and choose "Download" from the dropdown menu.

Download Individual Files

To download a single file, hover over the file you wish to download and click on the "More Options" icon that appears next to the folder name. Choose "Download" from the dropdown menu.

Primary Colors

Established in 1894, the primary color palette for the Illinois brand is orange and blue. Colors should be used consistently across all materials. Pantone or CMYK values should be used for print and RGB or HEX values should be used for screen applications. For more detailed directions, download the Block I logo and Illinois Wordmark Guide.
